Introduction
My relationship with Harvard began in 1985 when my wife Sally and I moved to Massachusetts from Oregon. By coincidence, the daughter of a friend of ours earned a position on the varsity basketball team. When Sally asked me to go to one of the games I went reluctantly because I did not expect the quality of play to be very good even at the college level. A few minutes into the game erased any doubt. The exact moment that changed my mind was when Hanya Bluestone (Harvard '88) hit a 3 point jump shot from the base line. Her form was classic - shoulders squared to the basket, with a broken wrist follow through. Hanya's teammates were as skilled. They went on to win Harvard's first Ivy League championship.
Soon after, I began taking pictures to give to the players. This grew into a full time activity, one that I have enjoyed for 25 seasons.
The level of play, the dedication of these athletes to their sport and to each other continues to motivate me. It is exciting to watch Kathy Delaney-Smith -- who has coached all of Harvard's 10 championship teams -- and her staff, mix and match the players into a cohesive team. I always look forward to each season when the new teams evolve, understudies take over leadership positions, freshmen -- bursting on the scene, full of promise and enthusiasm -- begin their careers at Lavities Pavilion. "Another opening. Another show".
The purpose of this webpage is to display photographs taken by me and other fans. The parents are my primary target group because it is they who nurture the talents of their daughters, take them to endless practice sessions and games, only to have them disappear when they go to college.
